The dark side of technology

We all love new technologies because it makes us more productive and happy in our lives but very few of us who think about the disadvantages of technology. One of them called “Technological Singularity

Singularity happens when the machine becomes capable of processing instructions faster than the human brain. It’s predicted to occur around 2045 -by Ray Kurzweil– as the fastest PC’s speed is 177,730 MIPS (Million Instruction Per Second) and the fastest supercomputer’s speed is 10^10 MIPS which is close to the human brain’s speed (around 10^14 MIPS).

After this point, the machine can predict easily what we’re gonna do before we even think about it. How ? by simply creating a decision tree.

A decision tree is a list of actions and its consequences, something like if X do Y, else if Z do L and so on. The deeper the tree the more possibilities it contains and when a machine is faster than the human brain it can go out of control because it will predict your actions towards the situation.

Lets take playing chess with a computer that is faster than your brain as an example. The computer will be able to create a tree of every move you make and the move next to it by going deeper into this tree. You won’t be able by any means to defeat the computer because you can barely predict the next 2 or 3 moves but the computer will predict far more than that and with the goal of defeating you the computer will definitely win !

But how that can be dangerous ? that’s what the I, Robot movie was talking about. By more machine intelligence it will predict that humans by their nature create conflicts when dealing with each other everyday and there is no way to come over these conflicts except by preventing humans to deal with each other because that’s what robots are supposed to do, to SAVE US according to the three laws or robotics by Isaac Asimov :

  1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
  2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
  3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.
This will create a conflict between us and the machines which want to control our actions to prevent harm and every action we will think about to end this conflict will be predicted by the machines even shutting them down and that conflict may not end easily or may not end at all !
The solution in I, Robot was to make the machines feel not just think and calculate and let their feelings control their actions. This may change the alternatives of the conflict.
But don’t rely on that because we don’t yet fully understand how feelings works inside us, so we can’t implement them in machines in the near future.

Clashes from the future

I witnessed a revolution in my country “Egypt” (and actually its still running, people aren’t satisfied yet). I only witnessed it I can’t say that I participated in it :D , I was a little bit scared and naive. The more important thing is not only my country had protests , tens of countries had, in every continent, no matter if its a developing country or not. Here’s a list of protests in 2011 and the number is huge, more than any passed year, more than any year in the human history (I’m very bad at history by the way :D) and may be 2012 will have more protests and more people dying for their rights.

What I’m trying to say is the future is not going to be handy at all !! Its harder than you think because the number of people is growing fast and the resources are limited. The more people the more protests because the governments aren’t so good with dealing with problems and they will not ! there’s no hero that gonna assure you a happy life forever. You are supposed to be that hero to yourself because everyone works for his benefit, the more people the more benefits and we all know that all benefits cannot stand on the same side.
Its a war, a war that cannot be dealt with guns. Only actions and legal ones so you don’t end up in jail :D
A war for food, a war for health, its an every day war for living and its getting harder every day so get ready for it because you’re already late!
I’m not gonna waste your time but in the end just consider the following five facts….

  1. Approximately 1 billion people throughout the world go to bed hungry every single night.
  2. Approximately 28 percent of all children in developing countries are considered to be underweight or have had their growth stunted as a result of malnutrition.
  3. Every 3.6 seconds someone starves to death and three-quarters of them are children under the age of 5.
  4. “Least developed countries” spent 9 billion dollars on food imports in 2002. By 2008, that number had risen to 23 billion dollars.
  5. A study by the World Institute for Development Economics Research discovered that the bottom half of the world population owns approximately 1 percent of all global wealth.

Retrograde motion

The end of the world is one of the most frequent topics that people ask about every day , how the world ends or when or how can we stop it , well if you can stop your end then you can try to stop the end of the world but that doesn’t mean that you don’t think about how it could happen
One of the signs of the end of the world is that the sun rises from the west , so how that could happen ?
There is a theory called “Retrograde motion” its definition : it is in the direction opposite to the movement of something else, and is the contrary of direct or prograde motion. This motion can refer to the orbit of one body about another body or about some other point, or to the rotation of a single body about its axis, or other orbital parameters such as precession or nutation of the axis. In reference to celestial systems, retrograde motion usually means motion which is contrary to the rotation of the primary, that is, the object which forms the system’s hub.
You didn’t understand anything ,right ? :D . simply its when an object rotates around its axis clockwise and another object rotates around the first object counterclockwise and vice versa just like this photo

The object’s rotation is direct or retrograde according to the angle between the object’s axis and the plane of rotation and this Phenomenon called “axial tilt” , when the angle starts to fall between 90 degrees and 270 degrees then its rotating in a retrograde motion

All eight planets in our solar system orbit the Sun in the direction that the Sun is rotating, which is counterclockwise when viewed from above the Earth’s north pole. Six of the planets also rotate about their axes in this same direction. The exceptions (the planets with retrograde rotation) are Venus and Uranus. Venus’s axial tilt is 177 degrees, which means it is spinning almost exactly in the opposite direction to its orbit.
Till now I don’t know the reason of the axial tilt but I believe that the axis of the earth will tilt according to some sort of thoughts in my mind
First: it already happened to Venus and Uranus , so why not earth ?
Second: if the sun will rise from the west at the end of the world so there are two scenarios , the first one is that the earth stop rotating (whether suddenly or not) and I don’t support this scenario because it may cause death to all living organisms on the planet and will mess up with time , weather and a lot of things . The second scenario is tilting the axis of the earth till it will be upside down without any decrease in the speed of rotation and of course this second scenario will have a great effect on the weather and this proves another two scenarios
First: dinosaurs extinction because of an ice age , if the earth rotated to be up side down the northern and southern pole will shift till the cover the whole earth with snow
Second: seasons are being shifted and every huge number of years that I don’t know seasons will substitute each other’s time
Finally I cant confirm all of these information , it just came up in my mind and if you found any proof or disproof feel free to comment
